FAQ
Can I apply a two component product on top of a one component product?
No. A two component product is chemically cured and this makes it hard while a one component product, in most cases, dries physically which makes it soft.
The shelf life of the product in the can has expired but I can see that I can still work with the product. Can I use it?
No. Although the product might seem workable there is a very high risk that it won't retain its properties, not performing as described and resulting to an undesired failure.
Can I add into my product a different thinner from another company other than what is written in its product data sheet?
The use of any different thinner other than what is clearly stated in its product data sheet, might cause issues, depending on the type and the quantity of the thinner used, whether that is during the application or affecting its final performance. For more information contact a VEMAR representative.
I have applied a two components product and I can see that it does not dry. What is wrong?
Make sure that you have used both the product's components in the correct mixing ratio. Make sure that you have applied the recommended thickness and be informed about the expected drying time depending on the surface temperature stated in the product's data sheet. Contact a VEMAR's representative.
I have some 820 thinner left. Can I add this to my product to adjust its viscosity.
Under no conditions. Degreaser 820 will ruin the product with which you are going to mix it. Degreaser 820 is solely intended for the cleaning of tools and the degreasing of surfaces.
Can I apply filler directly onto a non primed surface?
It is always recommended that the filler is applied on a surface primed with a compatible primer for better anticorrosion - barrier protection.
How can I understand that the bubbles I can see on the hull is a sign of osmosis?
The bubbles appearing on GRP hulls should be opened in order to examine whether they contain any kind of liquid. In case they do contain an acidic liquid then there is a very high possibility that the area suffers from osmosis and should therefore be treated with a suitable VEMAR's osmosis treatment scheme.
Can I dispose the empty used cans into typical residual waste bins?
Disposal of any type of chemicals into typical residual waste bins is not allowed. For disposal of such kind of waste you should always consult your local authorities for guidance according to your local legislation.
I need to repaint an old painted surface for which I am not aware of the product that has been used. Can I use any kind of product?
Compatibility between products depends mainly on the binder of the product which determines its generic type. In almost all cases, two component products cannot be applied on top of one component products. In order to determine the type of existing paint, you should perform a thinner test with thinner 850. In case the existing paint can be removed after intensively rubbing the surface, then you are most probably dealing with a one component product.
Can I use thinner to remove oil & grease?
The use of thinner for the removal of oil & grease can be done provided a thorough repeated cleaning of the surface with clean cloths until the complete removal of the residues takes place. It is recommended that the removal of these type of residues is done with the use of a suitable detergent and rinsing with fresh water.
