The 7th Sea Scout Unit of Thessaloniki is pleased to announce the completion of the restoration work on the boat Proteus.
Proteus is a mixed rig Sea Scout boat that, according to history, was launched for the first time in May 1946 and is the first boat of the “Thessaloniki” type ever built. It has been used since then for the Sea Scouts training, while in 1991 it underwent a complete reconstruction, after which it was relaunched into the sea and its use resumed by the Sea Scouts.
The Scouts of Greece organization was founded in 1910, and three years later the Sea Scouts specialization was established, a group that has been primarily focused on the sea from the very beginning. That is why they constantly maintain and use boats of this type, to become knowledgeable about the “art of seamanship.”
Vemar Yacht Coatings generously sponsored the boat Proteus restoration and after this, the boat regained its original shine. Vemar Yacht Coatings is a leading Greek company that is part of the HB BODY Group, specializing in providing high-quality and high-performance products for the demanding leisure boat market, along with technical services provided by experts.
Vemar Yacht Coatings took on the task of rejuvenating Protias with passion and commitment, providing all the necessary materials for its repainting free of charge. The specially selected coating materials from the company have created a durable and glossy surface, ensuring its preservation for many years to come.
Proteus will remain an exhibit and educational tool for the 7th Sea Scout Unit of Thessaloniki, offering younger generations the opportunity to discover the tradition of maritime art and seafaring adventure. In conclusion, the successful outcome demonstrates that collaborations always have a positive impact and can even promote the protection of our cultural heritage.
